Spring is in full swing and Garrett Leight Sunglasses has arrived not a moment too soon. This collection encompasses large acetate wrapped frames with attitude. As well as thin, comfortable,and clean optical frames. The designs are specifically inspired from classic coastal living from motorcycle riding movie characters of the 1950′s ,60′s and 70′s. In essence these frames embody the spring and summer season.

Il Bussetto is an italian based brand who still hand makes their products. They have a long history in making fine leather products. Il Bussetto makes some of the finest quality wallets, Tacco coin cases, iPhone cases using some of the best quality products and methods. Il Bussettos products are produced using vegetable tanned leather in natural colors and waxes.

The leather is manufactured with lots of care and the dyes, glues and waxes uses are all selected natural products. Some of the techniques used are kept secret and only passed from one generation of the italian craftsmen to another.

Four years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting brothers Sandy and Emil Corsillo from The Hill-Side. They showed me their new brand and collection and I thought sure… I’ll give ties a go. We have a young customer and the older Brooklynite, however with motorbikes being our forte..will ties mix in? With inspiration brewing, I hosted a fun event with a few artistic local brands ( The Hill-side, Coto, Digby + Iona, Lewis Henry, Bishop & Clerks etc..) and got to meet these young brand names before landing in shops like JCrew and having been scouted in European retail shops. I love The Hill-side guys outside of their designs. If curious and your pocketbook desires…it’s here in store and online soon. Designed and inspired in Brooklyn for Brooklyn.

Mikael Kennedy on Smith + Butler x Tellason (Chapter 1)

If you tell me you have a jacket with a pocket specifically for a map you’ve gotten my attention. There is something about unfolding a paper map out on the hood of your car, or laying it out in the dirt at your feet that makes you feel like you are actually exploring, much more so than scrolling through a screen on your iphone, or letting GPS tell you exactly where to go. Part of traveling is about getting lost, about stumbling upon new unexpected experiences. Traveling by paper map really opens you up to those things, you get a rough sense of where you are going, which direction you need to be heading, but the rest is left a bit up to chance. I’ve known Marylynn for years, she’s one of the first people I met when I arrived in NYC on a plane from Serbia where I’d been wandering previously. She called me up the other day and said she had in stock a jacket she made in collaboration with Tellason Denim out of SF, one that she wanted me to take out on the road to let her know what I thought of it. And when she mentioned the map pocket, I was impressed. I’ve been looking for a white coat like this for a long time, I think all things get better with age, old leather, denim, wood, people. What better way to watch the miles and years go by than in the wear; to see the marks that time and travel leaves, to patch up the holes that you’ve worn through, to make the item really your own. I figured lets start with a blank slate, a white coat (there’s a pair of matching pants that goes along with this as well). There are 3 things that are really important for an adventure; a good bag, a good pair of boots, and a good jacket.

Meet Mikael Kennedy…

My good friend, photographer Mikael Kennedy stopped by Smith + Butler today and grabbed the Tellason x Smith Butler Collaboration Chore Utility + Pant in Natural. Who would be more perfect to these garments on a road test with his gear and treks to vista landscapes for the perfect snap. Mikael is the modern day Ansel Adams in my book. His passion for landscape and who he photographs are perfect real day documentation. A somewhat beautiful moody Sartorialist, but with coffee table book and collectable prints a must. I had the pleasure of selling Mikael’s prints in Montauk and Brooklyn. This time, our project will document his travels and keep us posted on his whereabouts. Vistas await and SB x Tellason gear documented to the test.

For those looking for something new and sought after…we welcome Heritage Research. This brand from the UK tells a story that makes you want to retell their inspiration. Reminder here at SB we had military swiss, german and russian vintage, then Heritage Research and next years theme will be military all over with the major brands. Will we yawn by then? Or does military never die? This is a great heads up brand that isn’t by a book.

The collection we feature for men + women ranges from tops, chino’s, sweaters, coats and the ever classic denim. LMC is effortless and Americana with a modern urban aesthetic verses utilitarian purposed denim. The clothing is lighter in feel with modern cuts and fabrication. A Small bio on Levi’s Made & Crafted:

Back in the days, it was common practice for Levi’s representatives to personally travel to stores that were not yet carrying our brand, bringing with them a suitcase filled with a selection of our fine products.

After personally taking the store owner through the offering, they would leave a sample of the key elements that make a pair of Levi’s jeans “positively superior”: the Cone denim, the Oilcloth Guarantee Ticket and of course a copper rivet to hold it all together.

This salesman sample was in use from around 1908 up until the early 1930’s and we thought it would be nice to revisit this particular bit of our history and base our Levi’s® Made & Crafted™ branding and hang tag on it.
