This beauty is a heavily customized 1981 Yamaha SR 250 dual sport motorcycle built up by Tim Harney of Harney Boy Racing. While she certainly is a looker having been stripped down to naked perfection, this bike is also built to perform. She’ll ride hard on the tracks or on the road and she’s street legal to boot. My father had a similar saying: “It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you do it well.” IOAN tackles this on both fronts - taking manufacturing back to the regions where products and materials originate and bringing unique local businesses to an international market. The line of naturally dyed and washed tees & tanks from southern India are developed horizontally in collaboration with local communities through traditional and innovative industrial processes. All the cotton is organic and dyed in naturally derived dyes from plant or animal by products (a rich maroon comes from the secretions of the Shellac Beetle) and then packed out with recycled packaging, cutting down on the environmental impact. IOAN works all across the globe, bringing in Alpagatas (Espadrille type sneakers) as well as woven Fajas (woven multi-purpose bands) from Argentina. This is globalization on a positive front.

We are inspired by how things are done. We are not creating a new brand just to fill up shelves. In this modern time it is so easy and in everybody’s hands to do most anything, so the most important thing should be how we do these things. We aim to not negatively affect those around us and to provide opportunities to anyone who is out there working locally and well. We work together to develop clean and more sustainable industries around the world. We use all this to create products with the most simple and desirable aesthetic. You’ve probably already heard on the street that it’s the beginning of the riding season. What better way to ring it in than featuring a new motorcycle? Here we have a custom built 1978 Yamaha RD 400 from Brooklyn builder Tim Harney. Tim runs Harney Boy Racing, a custom motorcycle garage out of Bushwick, Brooklyn. This two stroke model had been built from the ground up, with a full engine rebuild and an incredible amount of attention to detail in hardware and finishing. Nothing short of what we should expect from Tim’s work. Come on down to the shop to see this and more of Tim’s bikes at Smith Butler Bklyn NY+… And yes, the bike is for sale.

If Andrew’s not photographing, on the road managing Ben Watts photo shoots, he’s hanging in Greenpoint …or having to stock up on a new pair of Levi’s @ SB. We gave Andrew a pair of the Tack Slim Rigid Selvedge months back. The wear and tear he’s put into them was noticeable with the busted fly and great wear. Spring is finally here and with it comes a whole new line of  Levi’s Made & Crafted apparel. Tobey is the Merchandise Coordinator for Levi’s XX here in NYC and is modeling the Off Road Biker Jacket. “In like a lion, out like a lamb.” There’s no denying that Spring is roaring in, and despite the scattering of snow this week, warmer weather is on it’s way. Damien here is back in town for spring break. He’s studying Marine Biology down in Charleston, NC where the warmer weather is suited for the beach comber he is. He’s crawling the Bklyn and NYC scene this week with the new CREEP collection by Hiroshi Awai which suits perfectly with Engineered Garments garb and D•Caged espadrille chukkas. Damien is staying true to his NYC roots while cruising his nautical pursuits.
